Medical Assistant (CMA/RMA) Job Description

Job Overview.

Join YHealth as a Medical Assistant and become part of a practice built around preventive care and whole-person wellness. In this role you work side by side with our providers, preparing patients for their visits, performing clinical support tasks, and helping our screening and lab programs run smoothly. This is a hands-on, patient-facing position in a growing practice where your work directly shapes the care experience and where initiative is noticed and rewarded.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Room patients, obtain and document vital signs, and record the reason for visit accurately in the electronic medical record.
  • Prepare and maintain exam rooms, stock clinical supplies, and follow infection control and OSHA standards.
  • Perform venipuncture and specimen collection, labeling, and processing for our laboratory and preventive screening programs.
  • Administer injections and immunizations as delegated by and under the supervision of a provider, within the scope permitted by New Jersey law and your certification.
  • Perform point-of-care testing such as EKG, urinalysis, and glucose testing, consistent with your training and practice protocols.
  • Assist providers during examinations and in-office procedures.
  • Enter and track laboratory orders and results, and communicate results to patients at the direction of the provider.
  • Process medication refill requests according to provider protocol.
  • Support prior authorization, referral, and care coordination workflows.
  • Clean, sterilize, and maintain clinical instruments and equipment, and complete quality control logs.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete documentation in the electronic medical record.
  • Support patient education and preventive care outreach under provider direction.
  • Protect patient privacy and handle all protected health information in accordance with HIPAA and practice policy.
  • Provide administrative cross-coverage for teammates as needed to keep the office running during absences and busy periods.
  • Participate in ongoing training to stay current with clinical protocols and office technology.

Qualifications:

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification, or ability to obtain one prior to start.
  • Eligible to participate in federal and state healthcare programs — not currently excluded, debarred, suspended, or otherwise ineligible.
  • Complete and verifiable education and employment history.

Clinical Skills

  • Proficiency in venipuncture and specimen handling.
  • Competence in obtaining and documenting vital signs and patient history.
  • Familiarity with infection control, sterilization, and OSHA standards in an outpatient setting.
